- Truman was suspicious of Stalin from the beginning
- Roosevelt died in 1945 leaving Truman (a communist hater) president of the USA
- Churchill often felt overlooked at conferences due to Roosevelt mainly siding with Stalin
- throughout the Tehran,Yalta and Potsdam conferences the relationship of the big 3 changed from strong alliances to people who were suspicious and passive aggressive to each other. This increase in tension is in my opinion what lead to the cold war.
- Without informing Russia, the USA dropped a devastating atomic bomb on Hiroshima in Japan. This caused Stalin to be very paranoid about the Americans. therefore leading to an arms race
- In an attempt to spread his views of communism Stalin began to take over Eastern Europe.
- In an attempt to stop communism the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Aid was set up to help countries that were under the threat of communism
- To stop Russia from racing through the already weak Germany, America helped strengthen the western zones of Germany. this showed Russia that America and the UK were prepared to fight against communism and Russia.
- After Germany had been split into 4 quarters Stalin had completely blocked off Berlin in an attempt to keep the west out. But America sent in their own supplies to help the city anyway
