  • yayy, i really love money.
  • So we have coins printed and scattered on the floor and on the wall we have its symbols that are presnted on the coins and you have to match the coins with its correct symbol
  • I dont know where this goes let me look carefully
  • Oh, i know where this one goes but it is abit confusing
  • Come learners you can do this. Make sure to look carefully
  • PHASE 1: 10 MINUTES All the chidren are seated and the teacher starts the lesson with some basic knowledge about money.
  • That will be nice, I will be R5 because its big
  • oh wait, i know how to do this.
  • Teacher can you explain again, I dont really understand.
  • HMM. let me ask them ask some questions
  • well done children, now we have coins scattered down on the floor and we have flashcards on the board for each coin, all you have to do is match the coins in its correct coin flashcard eg; if you find a R5 then you paste it in the R5 flashcard.
  • hey, wouldn't it be fun if we pretended to be coins. I will be a R2.
  • LESSON,PHASE 2: 10 MINUTESThe teacher instructs the learners to each choose the printed coins which are R1, R2, R5, 50c and 20c to match with its correct symbol that are shown on the coins and paste it in line with its symbol once they have carefully observed each coin.

  • Teacher, isnt a R5 bigger in size than the 50c and the 50c is gold in colour and the R5 is gold and silver.

  • ooh mines is silver and it has a kudu.
  • I'M a 50c coin which is gold and has a flower.
  • LESSON, PHASE 2: Each learner picked up a paper with coins and are now matching each coin with its respective symbols. This allows learners to think and observe critically as well as it allows active engagement keeping the learners focus and allowing them to interact with one another and move around.
  • That's correct. SWITCH THE COINS. Try answering the same questions.
  • I'm a R1 COIN. That is silver and has a springbok.
  • PHASE 3: 15 MINUTESAfter the learners have matched the coins with the correct symbols twice they are now instructed to assort the coins from the floor and paste it in the correct coin flashcard on the board. They must do that for all of the coins. So if the boy picked up a 50c he will look for the 50c flashcard and paste it in.
  • PHASE 4: 15 MINUTESOnce all the coins are placed in its respective flashcards, the learners come back to their places and discuss about differences and similirities that they have seen with their teacher and ask any questions that may concern them.
  • PHASE 5: 10 MINUTES The teachers tells the learners to say all the coins that they have learnt about and makes them repeat it at least three times. The learners know are aware of south african money namely R1, R2, R5,50c and 20c.
