  • My goodness, the crops! How are we supposed to live?
  • The society of estates was part of the feudal system that dated back to the middle ages. The peasants made up about 90% of the population but only a few of them owned the land they cultivated.
  • GROWING DISSENT
  • Taxes of the people were incremented due to depletion of the treasury from war efforts and luxuries for the royalty.
  • THE SPIDER AND THE FLY

  • Along with the price of bread which was the staple food of majority of the country rising rapidly, bad harvest, and unemployment contributed to starvation.
  • CONCLUSION
  • The people were upset since they were unable to afford grains and vegetables and the taxes were still very high.
  • Two years of empty stomachs! It is the royalty to blame!
  • ‘This poor fellow brings everything, grain, fruits, money, salad. The fat lord sits there, ready to accept it all. He does not even care to grace him with a look.’

  • The population consists mainly of peasants, few of which own the land they cultivate. The taxes levied by the king were solely paid by the third estate.
