Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas to mother and father Marcella Samora and Abraham Quintanilla
While Selena and her siblings, Suzie and Abraham Jr, were young, they had their own band called "Selena Y Los Dinos" which was managed by the childrens father who was a former musician. Selena did lead vocals while Suzie played drums and Abraham did guitar.

As her manager, Selena's father started noticing missing money in the accounts. Abraham knew the only person this could have been was the president of Selena's fan club; Yolanda Saldivar. He looked into Yolanda's past and saw she had a history of stealing money from those she worked for. This was hard for Selena since she saw Yolanda as a friend. Abraham wanted to confront Yolanda, but it was decided that Selena would instead.
On the night of March 31, 1995, Selena and Yolanda met at a hotel to discuss what was going on with the money. Yolanda knew there was no way out. The fan club president shot Selena. She was only 23 when she died.

Dreaming of You was released after Selena’s death and became a huge hit. The album hit number one on the Billboard Top 200 the week of August 5, 1995. That made it the first predominantly Spanish-language album to top the chart

Yolanda Saldivar was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Selena. She was 35 years old when she shot Selena, making her 61 years old today. It was said that she had no chance of parole, but it set to be released March 20, 2025.
