Storyboard Text

  • During and after the Revolutionary War, women took on many major roles such as nurses, cooks, maids, soldiers, and even spies.
  • Some women wanted to help fight for their freedoms, and so they disguised themselves as men. They changed their identity so they could. Many of them fought to protect their home and even hid injuries to protect their identity from being discovered.
  • Female nurses mostly fed and bathed patients, emptied chamber pots, cleaned hospital wards, and sometimes cooking. They often came up with new invention to help treat and care for patients. They did a lot of custodial work.
  • In the military, positions such as messengers, cooks and maids were usually taken by male soldiers. But during the Revolutionary War spots opened as they needed more help. Young women risked their life to assist their fathers during the war.
  • Some became spies for the military, delivering news to the leaders about their enemies and some became saboteurs, destroying things enemies can use.
  •
  • With the men away at war, the home had to be taken care of. Women had to now earn a living, protect their families and farm along with everything else they were doing.
