Storyboard Text

  • Hi Roger! You called me to meet you here. What’s up?
  • Oh , Hi! I just wanted to know if you could explain the topic rounding you taught us today because I didn’t understand.
  • 🚨
  • Sure , but move aside , the firefighters have a important job to do.
  • Easy! 550 is the answer because the last digit is 2 and not 5 or after!
  • Now listen carefully. We can round in 3 different categories. 10 , 100 and 1000. When rounding to 10 , we round to the nearest 10. So example 552 , if the last number is greater than 5 , then it would be the digit after , but if it is before it would be the number before. So round the number 552 to the nearest 10 , what do you get Roger?
  • Correct!
  • Now , when rounding to the nearest 100 , there should be 2 zeros at the end. Example 220. If the digits are after 50 example 260 they are rounded off to the next hundred which is 300. And when it is 220 , as it is below 50 , it will be rounded to 200. Hmm. Roger tell me what is 980 rounded to the nearest 100?
  • I know the answer! It’s 1000! The answer is 1000 because 980 is after 50 so it would be 1000!
  • Correct!
  • Now , when rounding to the nearest 1000 , there should always be at least 3 zeros at the end. Example 2,200. If the 2 , 3 and 4th digit are after 500 , they become the next thousand. Which would be in this case 3,000. Now the answer to this question that I took now is 2,000. Hmm. What is the answer to the digit 3680?
  • Easy as chewing gum! The answer is 4000 as the 3rd , 4th and 5th number is after 500 so it is 3000
  • Correct! Congratulations! Now you know all about rounding.
  •
  • Congratulations!
