  • OUCH!!
  • In 1895 a German physicist named Wilhelm Roentgen was trying an experiment. He was trying to see if cathode rays could pass through glass. When doing the experiment, he was shocked when a screen on the other side of the room glowed. He then discovered x-rays. He found that because x-rays have one of the highest frequencies and shortest wavelengths in the EM spectrum, they can pass through almost anything. They can pass through the skin because of their high-energy.
  • X-rays have become very useful in our lives. They provide a way for doctors to see the inside of people's' bodies. X-rays are a type of radiation that can get images of structures and tissues in the body. The high energy waves go through almost anything, making it perfect for doctors to use. They are most commonly used to see any broken bones.
  • Although x-rays have provided many positive impacts, they also have some negative. Too much exposure to x-rays can cause cancers because of the radiation. Also, if the amplitude of the x-ray is too high, the high energy can burn the skin as it is absorbed. Despite this, x-rays have modernized science as we know it.
