  • every  20 seconds I get a sharp pain in my head, no one else does but we're all equal so its ok.
  • George
  • yeah, and I'm forced to wear a mask so no one can see my beauty, no one else has to. We're all the same and equal though so its fine
  • ballerina
  • I don't have a handicap like you guys, but in someway that makes all of us equal?
  • hazel
  • I will, but I don't understand how we are all supposed to be equal but I am the only one with this handicap
  • why don't you rest your handicap down on the couch and get some rest
  • george and hazel
  • I'm about to escape from jail, although I don't know why I'm in jail because I thought we were all supposed to be equal.
  • This comic strip is based off of some of the irony in this short passage. I noticed a lot in the short story that equal or equality was mentioned often. In the begging of the short passage  he stated, "They were equal every which way".  The irony really showed in the word equal because if they were all equal then everyone would be the exact same. He again said they were equal in "every way". So if that was true then why did George have a transmitter then let off a high pitch sound every 20 seconds or so but Hazel did not? How come the ballerina had to cover up all of her beauty if Hazel had the same beauty as her because they were both equal. Lastly why is it that Hazel  got to live without any handicap if everyone else she was around were equal to her. I feel as if the word equality was taken and twisted. It was twisted so that the people who were "normal, basic, neutral", got to just exists. On the other hand the people like George and the ballerina who had a difference and were better and or smarter at something then the average person had so have something to cover it up. It would almost bein a way of dumbing them down to be more average. This wouldn't be making them equal it would be putting the above average people down a hole so that the average or below average people could feel just as equal.
