  • What the heck is that? I wish I had more information
  • Sounds dumb. I don't want to go
  • You are going to the Sunrise Adolescent Centre.
  • So many, I don't even know where to start.
  • No, we can just book a meeting
  • I'm calling from the Sunrise Adolescent Program. Do you have any questions?
  • I'm not going to read that stupid thing
  • gosh, that's a lot of information...
  • Here is the orientation package for the program. It has all of the rules and expectations in it. We will go through it together
  • In addition, we also have this video for you to watch to learn more about the program
  • Welcome to the Sunrise Adolescent Program. Here's a little bit about what to expect when you come here.We are a large team in partnership with Alberta Health Services.
  • This is where you will have your admission meeting. We have a pretty large team, so you'll meet a lot of people, but don't worry, they're all really nice and want to help. They will ask you and your family to make some goals for your time in the program. - so think of some things you want help with!Unfortunately, you can't have your phone in program.
  • You will get your own room. You are allowed to bring some of your things from home. The staff do random room searches for safety - they are respectful of your stuff though, so it's not too bad. You are expected to keep your room tidy, and not have any food in there. There are individual bathrooms and shower rooms.
  • There is a campus chef who cooks dinners for the programs. You are allowed to bake and do some cooking with staff supervision. Parents are also able to come in and do some cooking with their youth;Everyone has chores to do each day. Youth are assigned a laundry day. If you don't know how to do laundry, staff will teach you.
  • There is a classroom downstairs that you will attend. There is a teacher and a school support counsellor. They are both very nice and will help you get back into school if that's something you have a tough time with. It's not like a regular school, we get regulation breaks and 1:1 support. They also help you transition back to your community school.
  • There are treatment groups that we participate in with the clinical team and the frontline staff. They vary from art groups to health groups. You'll learn new coping skills and different ways to manage things. There are even groups for parents! There are psychoeducational groups where parents learn about mental health and a parent support group. In addition to groups, there are community activities/outings (like swimming, movies, parks)
  • There are also individual therapy sessions and family therapy sessions. There is an Occupational Therapist, a Psychologist, and a nurse that are part of your team too!Every 6 weeks or so, there are big meetings called treatment reviews to review your progress on your goals and make plans for future treatment. The team asks you to be an active participant in your treatment journey, this is annoying but it's for the best and they all mean well! It's how you get to go home sooner
  • This place isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be
  • That was very helpful! I have a much better understanding of what is expected.
  • Excellent! I'm glad it was helpful. Would you like to book an admission?
