Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 2
"Your lady's love against some other maid that I will show you shining at the feast"

The audience are told of a quarrel between the Montagues and the Capulets in Verona. The quarrel has become increasingly violent. We learn that the violence will only be ended by the death of the Montague son and Capulet daughter who are lovers.
Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 3
"How stands your dispositions to be married? "
A fight takes place in the street between Tybalt( a Capulet) and Benvolio (a Montague). The fight is stopped by the Prince, who is not pleased. Benvolio tells Romeo's parents. Romeo reveals to Benvolio that he is love Rosaline who does not love him.
Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 4
Paris asks Capulet for Juliet's hand in marriage. Capulet will only allow it if Juliet agrees as he thinks she may be too young. Capulet reveals he is to hold a feast and Paris is invited. Romeo sees the name of Rosaline, who he is in love with, on the guest from a servant and decides he will go to the feast.
Romeo and Juliet Act 1 Scene 5
Lady Capulet meets the Nurse while looking for Juliet. The Nurse recalls her memories of Juliet. Juliet arrives and her mother bluntly begins to talk of Juliet marrying Paris. Juliet agrees to consider Paris, but only if her parents agree.
"It is an honor that I dream not of."
Romeo, Mercutio and the Montagues make their way to the Capulet's feast. Mercutio encourages Romeo to join in and dance. Romeo speaks of his dream which encourages Mercutio to talk of Queen Mab, a fairy who gallops through the night.
"Some consequences yet hanging in the stars/Shall bitterly begin his fateful date/With this nights revels"
"Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance."
The feast takes place and Romeo sees Juliet for the first time. Tybalt notices Romeo and wants a fight. Capulet tells Tybalt to behave himself. Romeo and Juliet fall in love, later discovering they belong to rival families.
"Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!/For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night"
"If he be married,/My grave is like to be my wedding bed"
