  • The U.S. declared war against the Mexicans in May 1846. In which the war lasted two years (1846-1848) The Mexicans lost the war which then the Americans forced them to sign the "Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The U.S. acquired over 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory.

  • People who fought to defend their territory are James K. Polk, Zachary Taylor, Wifield scott, against Antonio Lopez de santa anna, also native tribes like Comanche, apache, Navajo.

  • The U.S. wanted to fulfill the "manifest destiny" by expanding to the Pacific ocean. in 1848 U.S. annexed Texas, which Mexico still considered as their territory. James K. Polk wanted to claim California but Mexico rejected. U.S. troops moved into disputed territory, prompting a Mexican attack. Lastly the result of all this ended up to the Mexicans to sign the treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo.
