Storyboard Text

  • Welcome to the Indus Valley (Present day Pakistan). We live a long the Indus River. The Indus Valley has been around for about 800 years.
  • However we still can't figure out how our city was destroyed
  •  Most of our people lived in the lower city. Our houses had flat roofs and were two stories high. Most people use the roofs as a place to be calm and peaceful.
  • Homes
  • We also had windows on the second floor. In most houses there are from one to a dozen rooms.
  • The wells were very deep and had much storage. The rich and the poor would each have a private bathroom in their homes.
  • Toilets (Sewer Systems)
  • We have a very advanced sewer systems. The dirty water and waste flow in channels along the streets which emptied into the Indus river.
  • The Great Bath is 39 feet long and 8 feet deep. The bath is used for religious reasons or to just bathe. Here you can cleanse your body and your soul.

  • Many people come here on a hot day to cool down and bathe. There are dressing rooms that circle the bath if you want to get out.
  • Seals are a mystery but we may know a few uses. It may have been a form of writing. Maybe they were pressed into wax to make a tag for merchants.

  • Seals could have been worn as charms to keep away evil.
  • We would trade things like made from mud and clay. Also metal and tools made up of flint stones.
  • Trade
  • We would also trade colored gemstones like turquoise, lapis and and lazuli. We may have also trade painted terracotta pots.
