- (1) Here is the scroll of every man's name that is going to play in our interlude before the Duke and Duchess on his wedding day at night.
- (5) Answer as I call you. Nick Bottom, the weaver.
- (3) Our play is "The most lamentable comedy and most cruel death of Pyramus and Thisbe."
- (4) This is a very good piece of work I assure you. Now, good Peter Quince, call fourth your actors by the scroll. Masters, spread yourselves.

- (2) First, good peter Quince, say what the play treats on, then read the names of the actors, and so on.
- (6) Ready. Name the part that I will play, and proceed.
- (3) A lover that KILLS himself most gallant for love.
- (1) You, Nick Bottom, are set down for Pyramus.
- (4) In the true performance of it, let the audience look to their eyes and tears as I move storms. I will condole in some measure. To the rest.---Yet my chief humor is for a tyrant. I could play Ercles rarely, or a part to tear a cat in, to make all split.

- (5) What is Thisbe? A wandering knight?

- (1) This was lofty. Now name the rest of the players. This is Ercles' vein, a tyrant's vein. A lover is more condoling.
- (5) Robin Starveling, the tailor.
- (3) No, no, you have to play Pyramus and Flute, you Thisbe.
- (1) It's alright. You can play in a mask and you can speak as softly as you wish.

- (2) I can hide my face, let me play Thisbe! I'll speak in a monstrous little voice: "Thisne, Thisne!" -- "Ah Pyramus, my lover dear! Thy Thisbe dear and lady dear!"
- (4) Well, Proceed.

- (4) Snug the joiner, you must play the lions part. I hope this part is well fitted for you.
- (3) You must play Pyramus's father. I will play Thisbe's father.
- (1) Robin Starveling, you must play Thisbe's mother. Tom Snout, the tinker.
