- “Whocares how a jaguar feels?” Is ironic because he is going to feel like a jaguar because he is going to be hunted by Zaroff.

- Zaroff challenges rainsford to try and hunt each other down and fight to the death because Zaroff is bored of hunting animals. “I wanted the ideal animal to hunt,” explained the general. “So I said, `What are the attributes ofan ideal quarry?’ And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all,it must be able to reason.’”
- Rainsford is getting chased by Zaroff and his wolves and makes the decision to save his life and jump off the cliff. “He flung himself down at the jungle edge and tumbled headlonginto the deepest sleep of his life.”
- Rainsford beats Zaroff in his own game and feeds him to the wolves.”One of us is to refurnish a repast for the hounds.”
