- Hi, my name is Emileigh and I live like royalty in Charleston, SC. I'm 14 and will having my "Welcome to Society" ball in a week when I turn 15. My mother, Sarah, is very focused on me becoming a "proper" young lady.
- She has me practicing my table etiquette, manners, and dancing. Mother says, "A young lady must carry herself with poise and grace at all times." To her demise my idea of grace is not falling off my horse while racing my brother home after fishing all day.
- We fight like cats and dogs over my dress and hair. She says my hair is a rat's nest and I should take more pride in my appearance. I say take me as I am or not at all.

- My Mother insists I wear a firm corset dress, which tightens it's grip suffocating me with each breath. I prefer to wear a dress that flows with the wind and doesn't restrict. We both decide we are right and compromise on the fit.
- Once the dress drama is settled we move on to the ball itself. There will be enough food to feed an army, people from all over will attend, and I expected to dance to night away. Even though I have two left feet and we argue over my lack of effort in fixing the issue.
- Thankfully, my Father is my Knight in shining armor. He helps to calm my Mother down and shows me ways around the strict rules for girls. Once we have compromised again, decisions can be made and the ball planned without the drama.
