  • Slide: 1
  • The first step in writing a linear function is to identify the variables involved. Typically, a linear function has two variables, usually represented as x and y.
  • The slope of a linear function is represented by the coefficient of x. The slope indicates how steep the line is. To determine the slope, calculate the change in y divided by the change in x from two points on the line.
  • Slide: 2
  • The y-intercept is the point where the line intersects the y-axis. It is represented by the constant term in the linear function, usually denoted as b. To find the y-intercept, substitute x = 0 into the linear function and solve for y.
  • Once you have determined the slope and y-intercept, you can write the linear function in slope-intercept form, which is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. Substitute the values of m and b into the equation to complete the linear function.
  • Slide: 3
  • To ensure the accuracy of the linear function, plot the function on a graph and check if it forms a straight line with the correct slope and y-intercept.
