  • Proclamation of 1763
  • Quartering of Soldiers
  • Tea Act of 1773
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was a law decreed to ensure the safety of the colonists, they could not move west of the Appalachians due to hostile native tribes. This upset many colonists, as land towards the east was expensive, and mainly taken.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767
  • The Quartering Act of 1774 stated that governments had to provide provisions and housing to soldiers within their town, which was originally put in place to help soldiers during the 7 Years War, as it was too expensive to construct barracks to house them. Soldiers often were quartered into houses without the owners' consent, but the law prevented any action from being taken against the soldiers.
  • The Stamp Act
  • Stamp Tax Paid
  • The Tea Act of 1773 taxed tea imports to the colonies, made to bring money to the Dutch East India Company. Since tea was one of the main drinks of the colonists, many were upset over the tax because they had no representation in passing it, and ultimately it and other taxes led to the Boston Tea party.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • The Townshend Acts were a series of laws that set up a new taxing system for the colonies to help develop their economy, as well as a system that let British officials search any colonial property or businesses. As this tax was passed without colonial representation, the colonies were opposed to it for that reason.
  • The Stamp Act was an act taxing any paper products and documents passed in 1765. This act didn't directly affect common citizens as it mainly taxed newspapers, which they could not afford, but once again, it was a large act passed without any colonial representation.
  • The Intolerable Acts were passed in 1774 and implemented to punish Boston for the destruction of the tea from the Boston Tea Party. One of the main acts was one that closed the seaport in Boston, not allowing any ships in or out of the harbor, eventually starving Boston of any supplies.
