  • Character vs. Nature
  • Its okay just stay calm
  • "And there in the doorway was a massive black head, the nose up and smelling,"
  • Character vs. Society
  • After at least a quarter of an hour of watching, she could stand their stupidity no longer. Lyddie took off her worn shawl, tied it about her waist, and tucked up her skirts under it. She found a flat stone and put it under the mired wheel. Then she waded in, her narrow shoulders shoving two of the gaping men aside as she set her own strong right shoulder against the rear wheel, ordered the men to the rear boot, and called out; "One, two, three, heave!" Above, she heard the laughter of the coachman. The men beside her were not smiling, but they did push together. The wheel rolled over the stone, and the coach was free to continue the journey.
  • Ugh, step aside
  • Character vs. Self
  • "'I'll pay you back as soon as i get paid.' She sighed. 'As soon as I pay Triphena-'"
  • Don't worry, I'll take care of Postage
  • No, I've borrowed too much already
  • Dear mom...
  • I know this is character versus nature because the bear barged into their house, and a bear is obviously an animal which is part of nature.
  • This is character versus society because when the wheel was stuck and the men couldn't get it out they didn't even think to let her try because she was a woman, even though in the end she was the one who freed the coaches wheel.
  • This is one of the many examples of when Lyddie does not want help from others, or be in debt to others. This is character versus self because she has a mentality that she should be independent and needs to get over that.
