  • The United States should start to practice imperialism, it will really benefit our young nation!
  • Does the President really think that this is a good idea? We should stay isolated like George Washington told us!
  • Yay, more resources!
  • The Navy definitely needs more harbors and ports for our fleet to advance!
  • After the issue of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, the United States realized that they needed to get stronger if they were to keep up with the powerful nations of Europe. The United States decided that they needed to colonize weaker nations and territories in order to obtain more land, resources for factories, markets for their finished goods, and new areas to live for their growing population.

  • The Boxer Rebellion
  • No more spheres of influence! Boxers unite!
  • No more foreign influence in China!
  • Quit standing around crying! Break out the howitzers and carbines and push these devils back!
  • The Boxers are coming! They know martial arts! What should we do?
  • I heard they kill all Westerners! Oh no!
  • In the second half of the 1800s, America and European Nations created Spheres of Influence in the country of China. As the Imperial Powers took advantage of China, hundreds of thousands of Chinese joined a group known as the Boxers to try to fight back against them. The Boxer Rebellion of 1900 was an attempt by the Chinese to reclaim their country. The Imperial Powers won because of their advanced weapons and navy.

  • Everyone wants to be like America the Superpower!
  • Bonjuour! The nation of France should build up our navy and army like the United States!
  • Those Yankees are just too powerful now! Cheerio! 
  • Since the Open Door Policy, China has gotten all of her resources taken and her land controlled. Not even the Boxers could save us!
  • After the events of the Spanish-American War and the Open Door Policy in China, the rest of the world quickly realized that the United States had become a global superpower. The United States now had colonies all over the world, one of the most powerful navies, and they were able to act as a policeman for the Western Hemisphere.
