  • Lucky for you, I'm an instructor with Drive BC. Let's give you the break down on how you can get your class 5 license.
  • I just turned 16! But I don't know where to start with getting my unrestricted drivers license in BC...
  • I just turned 16! But I don't know where to start with getting my unrestricted drivers license in BC...
  • Sounds great! I'll start reading  the Learn to Drive Smart PDF, do some tests, and ask my parents for advice, too.
  • To get your L now that you're 16, you’ll need to get 40/50 questions right on a multiple-choice knowledge test
  • You can prepare by reading the Learn to Drive smart resource, doing practice tests.
  • I just got my L! My next step is to get my N.
  • Of course! You can take your N test after you've had your L license for a minimum of 12 months (prohibition free).
  • That means no tickets or violations of any sorts.
  • And of course review the PDFs provided and do the quizzes. I can also take a driver training course!
  • Before your test, make sure you get lots of driving practice with a supervisor. Practice at different times of day in different weather and new neighborhoods
  • Make sure you can display driving skills in a safe, smooth, controlled manner.
  • Yeah! I just got my N. Lastly, how do I get my full driver's license?
  • You can take the Class 5 road test after 24 months as a novice driver (without prohibition). You could even take it after 18 months if you took an ICBC-approved driver training course and met all other criteria.
  • I'll be sure to study the practice guides and get lots of on-road practice, too.
  • Thank you so much! I feel so prepared.
  • The driving skills you should practice include changing lanes, pulling out into traffic, driving through intersections, backing up, parallel parking, and more. Otherwise, you're all set!
  • THE END
