- Katherine Johnson and the rest of the Langley staff were working hard. They were about to send a man in space for the very first time. They had to make sure that nothing would go wrong and that John Glenn would come back safely.

- The engineers had to have a very good level in maths and physics. They even worked at night. Katherine Johnson was among the best.
- Even a simple error would have catastrophic consequences. There seemed to be an infinite number of things that could go wrong with the spacecraft. The space capsule itself was a sophisticated tin can, but one that required elaborate engineering

- Prepare for the worst. Anything canhappen, our teams and I do our best to ensure maximum safety. But itis also your responsibility as the only passenger.
- John Glenn was to be sent into space.This was the first manned mission, named Mercury.Its goal was to put a man into Earth orbit and return him safely...
- He was aware of all the possible risks, but he did not give up, even if his life was at stake.

- As a test pilot, Glenn knew that the only way to remove all risk was to cancel the mission. HE understood that he was likely to encounter some unforeseen problems, so he did his best to be ready for them.
