- The mortician men moved west for fur trade and trading gold, they also set up farms and harvesting for a new way of life

- What a gorgeous day.
- Americans believed their nation and government was the best in the world and it was their duty to spread their democratic government and culture. The Americans used this to justify their beliefs that they were superior
- California Gold Rush
- The annexation of Texas upset Mexico, so the Americans fought a war to gain more control over more land, at the end of the war the US expanded it's boundaries to obtain more land in the west
- should we be loyal to Mexico or the U.S?
- Mormons moved west to Utah to see refuge from persecution due to their beliefs. The Mormons believed that property should be owned in common and men could have more than one wife.
- John Sutter discovered gold inn CA in 1848, people from all over the world rushed to CA to find and get the gold.
