- Act 1 Scene 1 the three witches are planning to meet Macbeth.
- Scene: Act 1 Scene 4
- Meet Macbeth, a valiant general returning from battle, and his loyal friend Banquo.
- Scene: Act 1 Scene 2
- Act 1 Scene 2 King Duncan receives news that the battle against rebel Macdonwald was very close, but that Macbeth has killed him and put his head on the battlements.
- Scene: Lady Macbeth's Ambition
- Thanks to Macbeth's and Banquo's courage, my army has won against Macdonwald and defeated the Norwegian invasion.
- Scene: Witches Prophecy
- Act 1 Scene 3 the three witches tells Macbeth and Banquo about their prophecies.
- Scene: Macbeth's Ambition
- Hail, Macbeth! Thane of Glamis! Hail, Macbeth! Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!
- Act 1 Scene 4 King Duncan announces Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor.
- By making you thane ofCawdor, I have planted the seeds of a greatcareer for you, and I will make sure theygrow.
- Act 1 Scene 5 Lady Macbeth is reading to herself a letter she has received from Macbeth.The letter announces Macbeth's promotion to the thaneship of Cawdor and details his meeting with the witches.
- I must persuade Macbeth to seize the throne. Ambition should overcome his hesitation.
- Act 1 Scene 6 and 7, Lady Macbeth enters, asking where he's been. Macbeth tells her they won't murder Duncan. She questions his manhood. Lady Macbeth continues, mocking Macbeth's fickleness. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth debate about manhood and courage. She says it's taking what you want. He says it's the power to put responsibility before selfishness, the power to not take what you want.
- I dare do all that may become a man; who dares do more is none.
