- Micheal, Carlos,and their father Papi have moved from Havana and they are now in America. Micheal loves to play baseball and he is an amazing pitcher. He wants to play for the Little League Word Series in Williamsport, PA so he can pitch. He wants to be like El Grande. Papi died from a heart attack and the only people who knows he is dead is Micheal, Carlos, Manny, and their neighbor Mrs.Cora.
- conflict
- Micheal was such a good pitcher that the other coach had claimed that he was not twelve years old. Now the ACS man Mr.Gibbs was involved in the situation. He was involved because it was just Micheal and Carlos and their was no legal adult. Manny knew a man that he calls Uncle Timo and he was going to have to pretend like Papi. So Micheal could get a birth certificate so he could prove that he was really twelve years old.
- solution
- Uncle Timo pulled it off with Mr.Gibbs and really acted and looked like Papi. He really needed his birth certificate so he can play again. One day at a game El Grande, Ellie, and Mr.Gibbs just showed up. They were all there so they could give Micheal his birth certificate that had Papi's real signature. Micheal was shocked but he knew that he could play baseball now so he ran out on the field.
- conclusion
- Now that Micheal is playing baseball again his team could win some games. He recognizes his absent father’s “ghost” with him, guiding him to throw some heat on the field of his dreams. He knows that his father will guide him through it and will watch over him. Michael then went into his windup and threw strike one. Next thing he knows the stadium started to cheer.
- I was happy that Micheal gets to play baseball again.
- I thought how Uncle Timo changed into Papi was unexpected and the way he described it was that he fooled Mr.Gibbs good.
- personal reaction
- It made me sad when Papi died of an heart attack
- I was surprised that Micheal could throw a ball so fast that the other coach did not believe his age.
- Manny was a really supportive friend to Micheal and was always there to help.
