Gatsby and Nick's Talk

Daisy and Tom Conspiring and Gatsby Looking Out for Daisy

When Nick heads home he sees Gatsby through the bushes and asks him about the car accident. This is when Nick finds out the truth as he asks "Was Daisy driving?" (Fitzgerald, 400) and Gatsby replies '"Yes"... "but of course, I'll say I was"' (Fitzgerald, 401). As seen here Nick is utterly disappointed and disgusted by Daisy's and Gatsby's actions, but despite all that Gatsby decides to take the fall/blame for Daisy's actions.

As seen in this scene Daisy and Gatsby seem to be conspiring a plan, which most likely would have to do with the car accident. For example, it is stated "There was an unmistakable air of natural intimacy about the picture, and anybody would have said that they were conspiring together" (Fitzgerald 413). On the other hand, we have Gatsby who's trying to look out for Daisy and would even sacrifice his own life for her. For instance, he states "I want to wait here till Daisy goes to bed. Good night. old sport" (Fitzgerald, 418).

"What are you doing?" (Fitzgerald, 385).

"Just standing here, old sport" (Fitzgerald, 386).

It's ok I have a plan.

Sounds good!
