- Mom Luby is grandmother to Elijah and Puddin. Since their mother's death three years ago she has been taking care of them. She is having a hard time financially and decides to apply for child welfare. In order to she has to pretend she is the children's mother.
- Child Welfare Centre
- Mom Luby returned home and back to life as usual when suddenly Elijah heard a knock on the door. When he went to see it was Miss Rushmore from the Department of Welfare asking to speak to Mother Luby.
- Miss Rushmore sits on the edge of one of Mom Luby's chairs and starts asking Mom Luby questions. Mom Luby pretends to be busy with chores. Miss Rushmore follows her around while she does her chores and ask her questions about budgeting to fill out the Family Budget worksheet. Mom Luby is very dismissive with her answers. Miss Rushmore looks upset and leaves several forms for Mom Luby to complete.
- Mom Luby tells her that she is busy as she has to deliver a baby, visit an old sick lady to treat her with herbs, bail a young boy from prison and preach at a funeral that same day. Miss Rushmore is angry and doesn't believe her so Mom Luby invites her to come along to her jobs.
- Two hours later Mom Luby and Miss Rushmore return. They go to the speak easy where everyone is. Miss Rushmore is angry that Mom Luby is able to do so many thinks in two hours and is unqualified to. Everyone laughs at Miss Rushmore and she leaves angrily.
- Mom Luby tells the children that Miss Rushmore has a point as you need education to fill out papers. She reassures them that they will be okay like always.
