In 1907 chemist, Leo Baekeland created the first synthetic plastic. Plastic became popularized during WWII because of it's cheap cost and it was easy to use and make make many different war materials. Plastic continued to move forward during the 60's and 70's as industries realized its vast ability to create millions of different products.
