Storyboard Text

  • Government Reforms: The government was viewed as corrupt and many people worked hard to change this. One of the most recognized people during this time due to his help regarding reforms was Theodore Roosevelt. Eventually numerous amendments (such as the 16th) were passed to fight this corruption.
  • Prohibition: The 18th amendment was passed which banned all alcohol. Many people and organizations fought against this law, most notably the Women's Organization for National Prohibition Reform in addition to numerous others. Eventually after years of of backlash, the 21st amendment was finally passed which completely ended Prohibition.

  • Muckrakers/Crusaders: Many journalists worked to expose the corruption amongst their society in their writings. One of the most important books written regarding these issues was "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair. It was through these writings that important issues were brought to light which forced the government to act to improve conditions.
