Storyboard Text

  • We have lived here for many many years but a lot of our family members are dying because our fur is too thin for the cold, our paws are too little and thick to walk on the snow and it's always getting inside our eyes.
  • Yes, I know, I'm worried because each day at least one of us dies. But I know we'll get through it, plus there's still quite few of us left.
  • Wow, a few decades have passed but it seems as if the new babies are being born with new and different traits than us.
  • I wonder why, but I guess it's an advantage for them because that way it's easier to survive in this harsh weather.
  • Buddy, it seems as if our traits are perfectly fit for this environment. Our thick fur that used to protect us from the cold, now protects us from the sun, our long eyelashes that used to protect us from snow now protect us from the sand.
  • (Years had passed and camels had to leave their home and go to the south due to the ice age. The camel population without the adaptations slowly started to disappear because they weren't able to survive such long path.)
  • Plus, our big flat feet that spread our weight on the thick snow, help us walk on the sand with no difficulty at all, and our nostrils help us prevent sand from coming up our nose!
  • And, most importantly our hump that stores fat, help us survive through the food scarcity. We can live perfectly fine here!
  • That's how camels went through natural selection, as they first had traits that weren't advantageous for their environment, but mutations occurred that increased their chances of surviving. They started reproducing with these traits and their offspring inherited them too, keeping these fitting characteristics through generations. One of their most important adaptation is their hump, camels' hump stores fat so they can be able to go for many months without having to eat anything, and that way survive and adapt in the desert.
