  • Teen dating violence doesn't have to be physical. It can be emotional. One partner may be overly possessive of the other and may have problems with the other having friendships of the opposite sex, or spending time with friends instead of them. An emotionally abusive relationship could include one partner bullying the other, blaming them for anything that goes wrong, feeling jealous of them, being unsupportive, and so on.
  • Hey Jessie do you want to get together with a few friends before the game tonight to hangout?
  • Yea sure that'll be fun!
  • Why is Jessie talking to Jason? How dare she.
  • In emotional abuse, it is common for a partner to make the other feel guilty for wanting to do something without them. The abuser may feel threatened that their partner wants to cheat on them because they feel insecure about themselves. Another big sign is if the abusive partner makes the other cry from their abusive words. Accusing the other partner of wanting to cheat ultimately undermines their feelings and their true intent which is obviously to not cheat.
  • What is wrong with you?! You have no right to hang out with people without me. And Jason?! Do you want to date him or something? You're honestly pathetic.
  • I'm so sorry I won't hang out with him or his friends. Please stop yelling at me.
  • Emotional abuse leads to self-doubt, low self-esteem, and feelings of self-destruction. The victim may believe that all the gaslighting and lies and insults of the abuser are true. This could lead to a low quality of life, and a long journey of feeling alone. When someone is constantly being told negative things about them, day after day, the more they will look in the mirror and believe every word of the abuser. This could lead to a lifetime of mental illnesses such as depression, body dysmorphia, anxiety, etc.
  • Hey Jessie! We were wondering what time you're going to come over. Game starts at 8 by the way.
  • Oh hey. I'm sorry I don't think it's going to work tonight. I- uh- my mom needs me to stay home tonight.
  • Maybe I don't deserve to have friends. I'm always ditching them because Justin makes me. Justin is right. My friends probably have more fun when I'm not there. *Sigh* I feel so alone.
