Not necessarily. We are warriors, and if that means taking up arms to protect our traditions, we will do whatever it takes. The government is trying to relocate our people to cities and terminate reservations entirely, which would destroy our cultural roots. We will die for this cause if we must, because we will not budge on our position (Mueller Salt, Kehoe 75-76, 83)
So you rely mostly on peaceful protests like the Civil Rights Movement then?
Actually, it's exactly the opposite. In order to be grounded in our cultural roots as a Native American movement, we needed spiritual strength and guidance to give us that connection to our tradition and understand what it really is we are fighting to protect. Crow Dog told us that we need the involvement of medicine men and holy people, so we are really a combination of tradition and spirituality (Mueller Salt, Kehoe 73).
Your movement must not be very religious then, if you're not afraid to use force and are willing to die for your cause.
Of course, anyone can join and be involved to help our movement!
Ah, I see. Thank you for teaching me about AIM!
