- We need water.Please get it.
- Why didn't you recycle those? Do you know what happens to plastics?
- Jelani and his mom are grocery shopping. Mom remembers that the family needs water. She asks Jelani to get the water.
- Sure mom!
- Jelani must decide between getting a large reusable water bottle or a pack of smaller single-use plastic water bottles. He choses the pack because he believes they are more convenient.
- Hmmm...should I get the large bottle or a case. I like the smaller bottles!
- Half-used water bottles are left all over the kitchen. Mom is annoyed by the waste. She asks Jelani to take care of them.
- Look at all these water bottles! Please put them in the bin outside.
- Okay mom.
- Jelani chooses to dump the mound of water bottles in the trash. He completely ignores the recycling bin even though it is empty and right next to the trash can.
- Geez! A bin full of water bottles!
- Jelani's younger brother Jeevan sees that Jelani has dumped all the bottles in the trash and he is concerned. He asks Jelani why he did not use the recycling bin instead. He then asks if Jelani knows what happens to plastic after it is thrown in the trash. Jelani is puzzled.
- Plastics ends up in landfills. They take hundreds of years to break down!
