GOLD RUSH
The Gold Rush is an incredibly important moment in US History, helping further westward expansion and manifest destiny. The rush also increased sectionalism after California wanted to become a free state after earning its statehood, which would imbalance congress and intensify the slavery debate, a major cause of the Civil War. This lead to the Compromise of 1850 and the Fugitive Slave act.
