On Christmas Eve, Scrooge's nephew asks him to come to his house for dinner. Scrooge declines, and also refuses to give money to the poor. He reluctantly lets his clerk have a day off for Christmas.
The Spirit of Christmas Present
Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?
Have they no refuge?
Scrooge goes home and is visited by the ghost of his work partner, Marley. Marley is suffering because of how greedy he was. He tells Scrooge the only way to escape his fate is to be visited by 3 spirits.
The Spirit of Christmas Future
There ain't enough for all of us. We were here first!
Scrooge is visited by the 1st spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Past. The Spirit shows him his childhood and failed engagement. The spirit shows him the impacts on the present, and what he could have had.

Scrooge is visited by the 2nd Spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Present. This spirit makes him realize how heartless his words are. He also shows Scrooge Fred's party, the Cratchit family's hardships, and what they all think of him.

Scrooge is visited by the 3rd spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Future. The spirit shows him that people are happy when he dies, and are robbing him. It also shows Tiny Tim's death of an illness.
After all of that, Scrooge has a change of heart. He generously gives the man money for the poor. Also, he cares for the Cratchit family, giving them a turkey, and raising their pay. He makes up with his nephew, and everyone is astounded at his new behavior. He really did live up to his name, which means stone of help.
