For 26 years, the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers, a rebel group that fought to establish an independent state in the north and east of the country, waged a bloody internal conflict.
they were in Sri Lanka seeking asylum in Australia and both came to Australia separately on smuggler boats.
Nades and Priya arrived in Australia on separate journeys in 2012 and 2013 and lodged claims for asylum.  Priya and Nades arrived in Australia lawfully, according to international agreements that guarantee everyone the right to seek refuge from persecution, regardless of how they arrived.
The  Biloela family moved into a town in central Queensland. in the house they had 2 children  Kopika and Tharunicaa. Priya and Nades' bridging visas, which they received after arriving in Australia in 2012 and 2013, would not enable them to leave the country.
In March 2018, Australian Border Force officials detained the family at their home in Biloela and transported them to the Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation facility in Broadmeadows, a Melbourne suburb.
They were brought to Christmas Island in August 2019 after an urgent injunction prevented them from being deported to Sri Lanka in the middle of their flight. They've been in community detention in Perth since last year.
