The Patriots defeated the Hessians, German troops hired by the British, mainly because they were unprepared and drunk. The Patriots kill about 905 soldiers while only suffering 5 deaths. Two of the other forces that went across the river with George Washington stopped before making it across. George Washington was very brave to even try to continue traveling.
I wish we could sit down in these boats
The Battle of Camden (1780)
The British had many sick and dying soldiers but they still killed around 3,400 Patriot soldiers. The British won the battle of Camden because the remaining Patriots retreated. The southern colonies will have to work to rebuild their army forces after this heavy loss.
The Battle of Cowpens (1781)
The British were surprised by the heavy amount of casualties inflicted by the Patriots and they were forced to retreat. Also, this was a major turning point for the war. This victory fuels the hope needed for the colonists to persevere to the victory in Yorktown.
