- Dr, Jekyll starts involuntarily turning into Mr. Hyde
- After witnessing Jekyll transform into Hyde, Lanyon dies of shock. "I have had a shock," he said, "and I shall never recover."
- Enfield and Utterson find Jekyll sitting in the window of his lab feeling down. They suggest he go outside for a walk, but Jekyll rushes away as if he's hiding something.
- Dr. Jekylls butler visits Utterson to tell him that Jekyll has locked himself away for weeks, and that he is hearing someone who does not sound like Jekyll, coming from his lab. Utterson goes to Jekyll's lab with him to see if he can do anything about it.
- ....and even his voice is different from Jekyll's-
- Utterson and the butler finally break into Jekyll's lab to find Hyde lying there dead.

- Utterson goes home and reads the letter. He finds out the connection between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They are the same person. It's finally revealed that Lanyon died after witnessing the transformation. Utterson then reads Jekyll's will, in which he replaced Hyde's name with Uttersons.
