YEAR 2024
I wasted all summer working on a product that failed when I launched it. What am I going to do now?
During the summer I had worked for a company located in Vernon. My bosses asked me to design a product to sell in the Okanagan region, to expand their product portfolio and attract new customers. Due to my lack of experience the product launch was a failure.

How lucky I was to find a course to help me learn how to develop a product or service.
MGMT 443
My main objective in joining the course was to develop methods, tools and techniques to help me gather information, design and launch a new product or service.

Welcome to MGMT 443
The first thing that surprised me about the course was when we saw the video of the shopping cart design. What caught my attention in the video was how people with different professions and points of view worked together to achieve the best possible design for the consumer. Before starting the course I thought that this work was only for design specialists.

Also, another thing that surprised me, is the idea of following a methodology where you start with a need or desire of society, and then, little by little, advance to reach the optimal design idea to meet that need.

Working in a group was a great help in sharing ideas. In this type of project where the development of ideas is very important, it is essential to have group members with whom to think together.

Is it what constumers want, or is it what I want?
One of the main concepts that I will take away from the course is the fact of not assuming that what we see as a problem or need for society is the reality. I find it very useful to develop hypotheses to constantly verify that what is assumed is really the case.

Can you help me by answering a quick interview?
Which of the following products would you choose according to their attributes?
During phase 3 we see how to design prototypes without spending money, which made me learn an important concept: you can use your imagination to save resources

I really enjoyed my experience in the course
My experience with the course was very positive. The organization of the group in the project was very good. I liked that we focused on each stage without having a final idea in mind, that helped to understand and carry out the objective of each phase.

Did you use what you learned in the course in the future?
Of course, on many occasions
AlthoughI do not see myself working in service development in the future, I believe that acquiring these tools are very useful for any type of work. In my case, I would like to be an entrepreneur and all the concepts seen in the course will be of great help to be able to follow a research methodology and empathize better with the client.
