- On a rainy Saturday morning, on May 19th, 1897, in Phoenix Arizona, Frank Luke was born. He had 8 other brothers and sisters. Growing up was really tough for Luke because, in his community, young kids had to work in the coal mines. He didn't really have time to do the things that he wanted.He said to his mom ,"Mother! I hate working in the mine! Why do I have to work there everyday?” Frank's mother replied ,¨Well, Luke,you need to help put food on the table by digging. We all have a job to do.¨ The room went quiet except the crickets, CLICK-CLICK-CLICK….
- In 1918 , Frank Luke finally made it out of the mines and into highschool. Where he grew up in Arizona, he was known as one of the best football players , bare knuckle fighter,and captain of the Track team to ever go to Phoenix Arizona High School. Even though Luke was really interested in academics he almost got kicked out due to his shenanigans in class.
- On July 28,1914 WW1 broke out and Frank Luke went home after a long day of school to listen to the news. He burst through the front door and heard, “World War One has started in Europe. ” and the radio started buzzing out in his ear BUZZ-BUZZ-BUZZ. When he realized a war broke out, he was very scared. He was still a teenager after all and didn't know why this was happening.
