There once was a boy calledBen, who lived in the small-town of Green Ville. Everyone knew everything abouteveryone, and Ben was quite the talk of the town, because he was in a wheelchair.Everybody judge him by his condition and didn’t even think to get to know him personally. At school the whispers, stares and name calling followed him wherever he went.He often felt sad and apprehensive about going to school. Today is the firstday of high school and Ben could not be dreading it more.
The parable of the two boys and the wheelchair
We will give you a wheelchair so you can be independant
People at school talked behind Ben’s back. They also stayed away from him, as if his medical conditionwas contagious. Already Ben’s reputation was known as the “disabled boy”. Max was a blonde hair Bully who acted like he ran the school and would always go out of his way to assert his dominance and fire put-downs towards Ben. This made Ben feel alone and embarrassed and the bullying would only continue.
The parable of the two boys and the wheelchair

One day Ben was walking acrossthe road while listening to music, he walked right out in front of the bus notpaying attention and was rushed to hospital by an ambulance. Ben was so scared.
The parable of the two boys and the wheelchair
Ben was alive but paralysedwaist down and was mourning the loss of his ability to walk and play football. He was in disbelief of what happened and was starting to get really nervous about returning to school. He had to do a lot of physiotherapy but 7 months later he returned to school in a wheelchair.
We are sorry but you won't be able to walk again.
When he returned to schoolto see his friends, he noticed the stares and the whispers as he moved down thehall. He felt uneasy and uncomfortable. When he saw his friends, Max was surprisedto see the group dynamic had changed. His whole group was laughing at him and callinghim mean names. He felt awful and lonely. His friends weren’t real friends atall and didn’t want to be friends.
Max left the hallway and went outside; Ben saw him upset and said he could come hang out with him. Feeling regret toward his previous actions to Ben, Max apologised and together they went to class. The moral of this parable is to treat others how you would like to be treated; this can be done by using empathy. The bible states in Matthew 7:12“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets”.
