In 1540, Sir Francis Drake was born in Tavistock, United Kingdom. His parents are Edmund Drake and Mary Mylwaye Drake. He also had 5 siblings, Edward, Thomas, Elizabeth, Joseph, and John.

In 1553, when he was 12 or 13 years old, Francis began working on his first ship, and in 1560, when he was 20 years old, he would become the captain of his own ship.

In 1567 Francisand his cousin John Hawkins sailed toAfricain order to join the slave trade. When they sailed to Spain to sell their captives to settlers, which was against Spanish law, they were trapped by a Spanish attack in the Mexican port of San Juan de Ulua. They later managed to escape and fled back to England.
1596
Francis voyaged around the world between1577and1580 with a crew of 164. The original purpose of the trip was to raid Spanish ships and ports. His voyage started in Plymouth, England on December 13, withfive ships,the Pelican, Elizabeth, Marigold, Swan, and Christopher.
On April 12, 1587, Francisset sail from Plymouth on an expedition which would result in anattackon the harbor atCádizin southernSpain. This attack would destroy shipsand supplies, ultimately forcing theSpanishArmada to delay sailing for an entire year.
On January 28, 1596 during a sea voyage, Sir Francis Drakewas buried at sea off the coast of Portobelo, Panama. He died of dysentery which is an intestinalinflammation that can be fatal.
