- ETHOS
- I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
- PATHOS
- This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.
- LOGOS
- But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free; one hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination.
- This is Ethos because Dr. Martin Luther King JR is trying to convince the audience to follow him. He is saying how he has gone through being negro his whole life and he doesn't want the same effect for his children. He wants people to not judge a book by its cover.
- ETHOS
- Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
- Pathos is being used in this example because it is appealing to your emotions. He is saying how slaves have been tortured while working for their owners. He is saying how there is a little hope for Negros in the world right now.
- PATHOS
- We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating “For Whites Only."
- Logos is being used in this example because he is using logic. He is saying how even after the Emancipation Proclamation black people are still getting discriminated. Black people still don't have the rights that white people do.
- LOGOS
- There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights.
- Ethos is being used here because he is talking about the Emancipation Proclamation. He is saying that a president was on his side. If he uses somebody as big as Abraham Lincon that already has a bunch followers that people will then follow him.
- This is an example of Logos because it is using little kids to appeal to the audience. He is saying how their dignity is being taken away because they are being discriminated against. They can only go certain places because of racism.
- This is an example of logos because it makes total sense. He is saying that he will not stop until white people quit being racist. He is saying that he will not stop until backs have the same rights as white people.
