- Robert Hooke and Cells
- They look like little jail cells. I think I will call them 'cells.'
- Robert Brown and the Nucleus
- All the cells have an opaque area. I will call this area the nucleus!
- Cell theory states: All organisms are composed of one or more cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure and function. Cells come from pre-existing cells.
- Matthias Schleiden and Plant's Makeup
- Robert Hooke is well known for his first use of the word cells. He used this terminology as a word for the basic unit of organisms. Robert Hooke was also an early component of the Theory of evolution.
- Theodor Schwann and Animal's Makeup
- Robert Brown was studying the fertilization of orchids. He was using a microscope to examine the plants when he noticed that the cells had an 'opaque area' in them which he called the nucleus.
- Rudolf Virchow and Cell Reproduction
- It seems like cells cannot just form. It seems as though they may have to come from other cells.
- Matthias Schleiden made the discovery that all plant tissue is composed of cells. Additionally, he made the discovery that an embryonic plant came from one cell.
- All these plants are made up of cells! I wonder if every plant is made of cells.
- Theodor Schwann was a german scientist that made the discovery, alongside Matthias Schleiden, that all living things are made up of one or more cells. He contributed to this with his discovery that all animals are composed of cells.
- All of these animals are composed of cells! Does that mean that EVERY animal is composed of cells?
- Rudolf Virchow made the discovery that when an organism falls ill, the whole organism is not sick, so much as a certain group or groups of cells. He also did work relating to the discovery that cells cannot form without other cells.
