- Thomas : To tell you the truth, Peter, I can't say just at this moment--at all events not tonight. There may be much that is very abnormal about the present conditions-- and it is possible there may be nothing abnormal about them at all. It is quite possible it may be merely my imagination.
- Peter: I must say it all sounds most mysterious. Is there something going on that I am to be kept in ignorance of? I should have imagined that I, as Chairman of the governing body of the Baths--

- Act 1 Act 1 provides an insight about how politics plays a huge role in The Baths suggesting the theme of power and public opinion. Furthermore, Thomas, Peter(Thomas' brother) and Katherine (Thomas' wife) are introduced .
- Petra gives Dr. Stockmann the letter from the lab about the water of the baths which foreshadows the conflict that will occur in the Baths. Additionally, it depicts that both Petra and Katherine are very loyal to Thomas.
- Thomas: A discovery of mine. (Walks up and down.) Just let them come saying, as usual, that it is all fancy and a crazy man's imagination! But they will be careful what they say this time, I can tell you!
- Petra : But, father, tell us what it is?

- Act 2 introduces Aslaksen who is fully in defence towards Dr.Stockmann. However, later on his facade mannerism is show as he flips his team and goes against Thomas. This bring out the theme of truth and the media.
- Aslaksen: Quite so, I understand. Well, I have come to say that I will back that up by every means in my power.
- Thomas: Yes, for the Baths.
