- I'm sorry to say this Mrs. Alper, but Jeffery is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia 
- Welcome toMATH 
- It is so hard to focus on my work while having to worry about Jeffrey at the same time. I guess I should just not do my work.
- One morning while making oatmeal, Jeffrey falls off a stool which calls for him to be taken to the emergency room. 
- I promise. Oh, and I want you have my favorite drum sticks.
- My sister was never there for me, but I need you to promise that you will always be with Jeffery, no matter what.
- (Samantha)
- The Alper's soon come to know that Jeffery is diagnosed with leukemia.

- Its my big night! Should I stay or go?
- Samantha's promise!
- Steven's grades are dropping, his family is facing financial problems, and all he can think about is Jeffery and what he must be going through.
- The Outstanding Musical Achievement award goes to ... Steven Alper!
- Yay! That's my brother!
- While at the hospital one day with Jeffery, Steven meets a cancer patient named Samantha. She makes him promise her something that is helpful to Steven throughout the rest of the story.
- While at a fundraising concert for Jeffery's treatment, Jeffery throws up and has to be taken to the emergency room. As a result, Steven must choose whether to go with his family or stay at the concert. This is when he remembers Samantha's promise.
- Steven you have to come with me. I will be scared and I want you to be there with me
- The Alper family has survived a very hectic year, and they have reached the end of it. Steven graduates from middle school, while Jeffery is in remission.
