Long ago, there lived a wise old woman and her farmer son. They lived in a small village in Japan, under the ruling of a cruel and unreasonable young lord.
The young lord declared that when all elders turn 71, they must be taken into the mountains to die, because he believed that elders had no use in the village.
The young farmer takes his 71 year old mother to the mountains, but he loved her too much and brought her back home. He didn't want anyone to find her so he decided to hide her in a hole he dug under his kitchen floor.
Lord Higa from the village over, decalres that if the wise men cannot complete 3 impossible tasks, he will conquer their village. The wise old woman knows exactly how to complete the tasks, and she saves the village.
The farmer tells the young lored that the wise old woman has been solving all of the "impossible" tasks, but unexpectedly, he isn't angry.
Lord Higa lifts the decree stating that all elders over the age of 71 have to go to the mountains to die. He also realizes that old people hold much wisdom and knowledge.
Elders are all useless! As soon as they turn 71 they shall go to the moutains to die!
OH NO!!
Oh my son, that is not so hard.
Oh young lord, I am so sorry. I have defied your decree and kept my dear old mother under my kitchen all of these years. She is the one who has solved all of these impossible tasks.
ATTENTION: I have decided to lift the unreasonable decree. All elders will no longer be required to go to the moutains to die, for I have realized that the hold mush wisdom.
