  • No taxation without representation!
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George II. It gave all land west of the Appalachian Mountains to the Native Americans. No colonists were allowed to go to this land. The document was issued in order to please the Natives.
  • Townshend Acts - 1767
  • The Quartering Act made it a requirement for colonists to house and provide resources for British soldiers. Colonists opposed the act because they were being taxed to pay for provisions and barracks for the army.
  • Boston Massacre - 1770
  • The Stamp Act was passed by British Parliament. It required the Americans to pay a tax on all the paper they used. Examples of products that were taxed are ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and playing cards. The colonists protested the act by rioting and boycotting.
  • Boston Tea Party - 1773
  • Throw the tea!
  • The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed by British government. They placed more taxes on imports such as lead, paint, paper, glass, and tea.
  • I can even buy oil for my bread without being taxed!
  • Even this paper has a tax on it.
  • This is ridiculous!
  • The Boston Massacre was a street fight between the colonists and the British soldiers. The colonists were very aggressive and were yelling. The British were confused and fired at the crowd in response. Five were killed.The side that is at blame for the incident is still undecided.
  • Oh my!
  • The Boston Tea Party was a protest led by the Sons of Liberty. They disguised themselves as Indians and raided three British ships at night. They proceeded to throw barrels of tea off the ships, into the harbor. They were so angered by the taxes the British had put on their goods.
