- Madeline picked it up and fed it to Joseph, and she smeared some on his mouth and she laughed and she leaned forward and she kissed him for the first time was what happened when Joseph went to go see Maddy during winter.

- Nick Porter suddendly had his hand across Josephs jaw and he was strangling him and shoving him back into the lockers. Jack witnessed this happening when he waklkd into the eight grade lockeroom.
- Who do you think you are, keeping him from me? said Mr.Brook when agrueing with Jacks parents about Jospeh.
- The rotted timbers collapsed and the pickup fell between the griders and then it went through the ice and was gone This is what Jack and his parents found out what happended and was devastated.
- Jack and his family attend Jospehs funeral. Jack is so sad to the facts that Jospeh had died when they were supposed to have each others back. He had also relised that Jospeh died for his sake because Jack could have been on that van too.
