- It was good Shabana was killed. She wasn't Muslim.
- The Taliban came to a dancer named Shabana's house and asked her to dance for them. When she was ready to dance, they killed her because they saw dancing as a sin.
- I had a bad dream about the Taliban.
- The Taliban left Shabana's body in area of town that came to be known as " Bloody Square." They left her with a note saying not to touch her or else they would kill you next.

- On the radio, the Taliban leader said that her death was a good thing. They said that because sh was a dancer, that she was not a Muslim.

- Malala began a diary with someone named Abdul Hai. Every night they would talk on the phone about what life was like for her under the Taliban.
- Malala's diary appeared on a BBC website. She wrote under the pen name of Gul Makai. Her first segment was called " I am Afraid"
- The Taliban set up a deadline that every girl's school school must be closed by. Malala's school was determined to remain open, but they did end up having to close it before the deadline.
