In the same year, the Philippines was ceded to the United States by Spain.
Yes and in 1901, Aguinaldo was captured and declared allegiance to the United States.
Then, on June 12, 1898, Filipinos led by Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence right?

1916 & 1934
In 1916, the U.S. passed the Jones Law establishing an elected Filipino legislature with a House of representatives & Senate.
If I'm not wrong, in 1934,the Tidings-McDuffie Act was passed by the U.S. Congress.
This time Emilio Aguinaldo are joined force with US navy to fight against Spanish navy in Manila Bay.
May 14, 1935
Then, on May 14, 1935 elections, Manuel L. Quezon won the position of President of the Philippine Commonwealth.
Later, Spain give up the Philippines to the United States after receiving the payment of US$ 20 million to Spain in accordance with the "Treaty of Paris" ending the Spanish-American War. Also, Philippines declare independence and then Emilio Aguinaldo declared Loyalty to the United States.

While the Tydings-Mcduffie Act established the Commonwealth of the Philippines and it promised Philippine independence by 1946. Moreover, on July 4, 1946 independence was given and the Republic of the Philippines was born in accordance with the Act.
Manuel Roxas won the presidency and serve as the 5th president of the Philippines and the first president of the third republic.
